Are you looking for MOT Cardiff for your vehicle?

If your vehicle is over 3 years old, it must pass an annual MOT test, mandated by the UK’s Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

MOT Tests are stricter than ever since the May 2018 update and even more after 2021 updates. The testing centres assess multiple defect types, and the check is even more stringent for diesel cars. Simply put, your 4-wheeler needs to be in top condition to pass an MOT Test Cardiff.

You can book an appointment with Garth Tyre & Auto Services for a hassle-free Class 4 MOT Test.

How do MOT tests work?

During an MOT Cardiff, our tester thoroughly inspects your car’s components to assess the vehicle’s roadworthiness and safety level.

Class 4 MOT Test apply to the following vehicles:

  • Passenger cars
  • Dual-purpose vehicles
  • Ambulances and minibuses with a seating capacity of up to 12
  • Motor caravans
  • Goods carriers with a Design Gross Weight (DGW) of up to 3,000 kg
  • Taxis

The following components are a part of the checklist:

  • Brakes
  • Exhaust and emissions
  • Mirrors
  • Lights
  • Horn
  • Seatbelts
  • Steering
  • Tow bar
  • Wheels and tyres
  • Windscreen and windscreen wipers
  • The Suspension system

In addition to this, diesel cars undergo a strict inspection of diesel particulate filters (DPFs).

During the MOT test, the tester takes note of all testing results. The results are as per government regulations. If the test is complete with no faults, you will get an MOT pass certificate (VT20).

Minor issues like wear and tear will be listed in an advisory note attached to the pass certificate. As the name suggests, the tester advises the vehicle owner to get the part of the vehicle checked, replaced or repaired on time to avoid future issues.

If a vehicle shows serious damage at any testing point, it fails the MOT test. You will no longer be allowed to drive this vehicle after your current MOT certificate has expired. You will be issued a VT30 certificate in which the fault(s) responsible for the MOT failure is/are listed. A member of our team will also explain everything to you.

The reasons for the failure require fixing, and the vehicle has to undergo a re-test afterwards.

Since our experts already know where the weakness lies, they advise you on the work needed and its estimated costs. This way you can make an informed decision.
